Marvel's Avengers game launches in May, 2020, will follow an original story.

The Marvel's Avengers game that has been teased for so long by Square Enix was unveiled at its E3 press conference today. Although we didn't get to see any actual gameplay in action, there was an in-engine trailer to witness. See the official A-Day cinematic trailer above.

The game is described as an action-adventure game that can be played in both solo and in co-op with friends, featuring a "cinematic campaign" with "high-octane action." The story will be completely original and will develop over the coming years, setting it apart from the wildly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It doesn’t seem like this campaign will be the only offering in the title, as Square Enix revealed there won't be any "random loot boxes or pay-to-win scenarios" in it, hinting at more repayable multiplayer experiences. More superheroes and regions will also be added to the game for free as post-launch updates, cementing Avengers as a Games as a Service title.
