Trump shooting live updates: Ex-president calls on America to ‘stand united’ after assassination attempt

Donald Trump has called on America to “stand united” after he survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. 

The former president, who was bundled off stage after a bullet hit his ear, thanked God for preventing the “unthinkable from happening” and said he would remain “defiant in the face of wickedness”. 

Trump was just 15 minutes into the rally at Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening when suspected gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire from the rooftop of a building outside the security parameter.
